The 1997 Team Trials of the Bridge Federation of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East (BFAAME) were held May 16-28 in Cape Town, South Africa. The main purpose of these championships was to select the teams that will represent Zone 4 in the World Championships later this year in Tunisia. In the Open Series, India and South Africa qualified for the Bermuda Bowl. In the Ladies Series, Egypt and India qualified for the Venice Cup. Jeff Sapire of the South African Open Team was the declarer. Sapire's partner was Neville Eber. On this deal, they faced Anil Padhye and Subhash Gupta of India.
